Ingredients
16 oz (1 box) ziti
8 oz extra lean (90% or more) ground beef
11 oz shredded, part skim mozzarella cheese
2 cups part skim ricotta cheese
24 oz spaghetti sauce + ¼ cup of water
2 tbls reduced fat grated parmesan cheese
1 tsp of dried basil leaves
½ teaspoon of salt
¼ tsp ground black pepper
4 ½ quarts of water
Directions
Cook pasta: In a 5 quart pot, bring water to a rapid boil. Add ziti, stir and return to a rapid boil. Cook uncovered for 10 minutes. Drain ziti in a colander.
Cook meat and sauce: Brown meat thoroughly over medium heat. Drain if necessary. Add sauce and water. Simmer on low for 10 minutes.
Prepare cheese: In a small bowl, mix ricotta, 5 oz of the mozzarella cheese and basil. Add pasta to meat sauce and mix.
In a 10 inch to 13 inch casserole dish, spoon one half of the pasta mixture. Spread the cheese mixture on top. Add the second half of the pasta mixture over the cheese layer. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and parmesan on top.
Cover with foil. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 5 minutes until hot and bubbly.
