Ingredients
8 ounces of 99% fat free, all white meat ground turkey
1 slice of lite whole wheat bread, toasted and crumbled into bread crumbs
2 oz of shredded, low-moisture, part-skim mozzarella
1 egg
cooking spray
1 cup of Italian bread crumbs
1 tsp of minced or chopped garlic
garlic powder to taste
dried onion flakes to taste
light dash of dried basil leaves
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
4 ounces of pasta (linguini, spaghetti, etc)
1 cup of spaghetti sauce (already prepared)
2 tbls of water
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Mix together ground turkey, egg, crumbled whole wheat bread slice, dried basil, onion flakes, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Form two oblong patties about ¼ to 3/8“ thick.
Pour Italian bread crumbs into a container. Place patties in bread crumbs and coat on both sides. Spray an aluminum pan with cooking spray and place patties in pan. Bake patties in oven 7 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from oven.
Preheat a medium saucepan over medium heat. Spray with cooking spray. Lightly brown the garlic. Add spaghetti sauce and water. Heat for a minute. Add patties and cover with sauce on both sides. Spread cheese on top of patties.
Cover the saucepan and simmer on low for about 15 to 20 minutes, until cheese is melted.
Boil pasta according to package directions (about ten minutes). Serve patties with pasta.
