Ingredients
1 pound of 90% or more lean ground beef
2 toasted slices of bread, crumbled into bread crumbs.
1 large egg
1 tbl (or to taste) finely chopped green pepper
1 small finely chopped onion
1 tbl dry mustard (optional)
15 oz can of tomato sauce
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
salt to taste
pepper to taste
Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
In large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs green pepper, onion, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, 4 tbl tomato sauce and egg. Mix with your hands until all ingredients are combined evenly.
Shape meat into an oval mound in a casserole dish. Place dish in oven. After 20 mins, once the meat is lightly browned, pour the remaining tomato sauce over the meat loaf evenly.
You can add a green pepper ring as a garnish. Bake for an additional 45 minutes.
